Before the Break is an instrumental prelude — a held breath before the words arrive. It flows directly into The Wound That Wears a Name (Unplugged), stripped of distortion and force, leaving the weight of the lyric exposed. No escalation, no resolution — just presence.
The world was whole before the sound, A home where I thought I belonged. Then laughter cracked the picture frame— Innocence fled and the darkness came. Their voices sweet with borrowed spite, They told the tale behind my name. The truth revealed to coil and bite— It's venom drowned the world in shame. A whisper bloomed behind my eyes, It spoke my name, it wore my skin. It told me all love was a lie, If the truth begins in sin. Although she tried to hide the lie, I saw the sorrow behind her eyes. A hollow echo of what had been, A nightmare that can’t be unseen. I am the wound that wears a name, An echo beneath blackened skies. No hands can wash this stain from me— I am the proof that love’s a sin. The whisper said no one would care; My absence would set them free. My pulse became a ticking prayer, The dark leaned close to answer me. Then thunder cracked; the silence stayed; The attempt was made, but I remain. Calm returned — the cold, the curse; Still condemned to bear the stain. Life collapsed, devoured within, A vortex born of loathing’s spin. I chased the high to feel the fall, To prove I ever lived at all. The voice returns, a broken hymn, It hums the names I used to be. I stare into the glass again— The cursed ghost looks back at me. Although the past still haunts my name, The echoes fade beneath an ashen sky. No hands can wash this stain from me— But still, I breathe, and still, I try. I am the wound that wears a name, The sum of all I’ve lost and been. No light can cleanse what made me live— Yet in the dark, I’m whole again. The vortex fades, its ire spent, The smoke now drifts where dreams begin. If peace won’t come, then let it lie— I’ve learned to breathe the dark within.

There’s a truth I can’t erase, A shameful secret in a quiet place. I built these walls to keep it safe, Now they cage what they once saved. I see life through shattered glass, Safe behind this stony mask. Every smile’s a practiced lie, A hollow truth I can’t deny. This wound I’ve had to hide, Still quietly bleeding deep inside. I want to scream, I want to cry — But silence falls — the mask stays dry. There’s a chasm deep inside, I feel you wait across the divide. I ache... for a bridge across, But my heart won't bear the cost. I reach out, fear makes me stay, Everything dims and pulls away. These walls once saved my life, Now they keep me from the light. I dream of warmth I can’t sustain, Each touch I crave just turns to pain. The closer I come, the more I hide, Seeking comfort in the void inside. The years have carved their quiet toll, Etched regret deep into my soul. I built a world that feels secure, Yet I don’t know what I’m hiding for. The more I try to break away, The more these walls demand I stay. I hear your voice beyond the stone, But my fear whispers, “Stay unknown.” Let me fall, let it burn — My heart can’t heal, it won’t unlearn. If love is light, then strike me blind, And rip these shadows from my mind. These walls once home, now a cage, nothing escapes this forsaken place. There’s a chasm deep inside, I feel you across the divide. I ache... for a bridge across, But my heart won't bear the cost. I reach out, fear pulls me away, The words I speak fade to gray. These walls once saved my life, Now they bury me in the night.
Deep in the hollows beneath my ribs, Where the old wounds gnaw and breathe, I hear them stirring in the dark… The trolls… awaken. They hide where the silence breaks, In the marrow of my buried deeds. Shapeless things with hollow eyes, Feasting on the truths I fought to hide. Beating on the stone doors I sealed, Desperate for more of my soul to steal. Each one wears a face I know— A shadow carved from long ago. They were born from the fractures inside, Remnants of the battles I survived… (But never healed.) To live… is to battle the trolls, In the vaults of the heart and the mind. To breathe… is to reckon with ghosts That whisper truths you have denied. To stand… is to face what you forged In the places the light cannot find. To live… is to war with the trolls In the vaults of the heart and the mind. Stone by stone, the halls descend, Past every lie I failed to mend. The deeper down these passages go, The more I fear what wakes below. They circle me with hungry eyes, Mirror-voices wearing my disguise. Hunter, hunted — all the same, Bound by blood and fear and flame. If I run, they grow stronger still… If I face them, they bend to my will… But never break. Come forth… Creatures of my ruin… I know your names… They echo in these halls I forged… Fear Shame Regret You will not rule these halls again. To live… is to battle the trolls In the vaults of the heart and the mind. To rise… from the ruins they built And reclaim what they left behind. I bleed… but I won’t turn away — This war is the shape of my life. To live… is to war with the trolls In the vaults of the heart and the mind. The vaults grow quiet… But never still… The trolls return… They always will… And so will I.
Something’s missing. Not gone — just… fading. Like light through dust. No one asks. No one looks. I don’t bleed. So they don’t see. I sleep. The ache is quiet. It has no name. It takes my shape. I used to know the sound of joy. It fades behind the door. Now every sound is empty breath, That dies and comes once more. There’s no cure for what I feel, No wound to show, or to heal. I’m still here — or what remains. A shadow whispering my name. I’ve become a window. My thoughts fall through. The mirror stares, But never moves. I tried to speak — the sound dissolved. Like smoke inside the air. I tried to scream — the void replied, With silence everywhere. Silence waits. Silence breathes. Silence stays. There’s no cure, no saving grace. The sickness hides behind my face. No blood, no pain, no visible plea — It just takes… all of me. The light is gone… The hum remains… This quiet… Has my name.
I open my mouth… the water rushes in. The words dissolve before they reach the air. There’s a storm inside my chest, pulling every breath below. I rehearse the things I’d say, but the moment comes… silence holds… nothing flows. I see your eyes searching mine — you know something’s not right. But every truth I try to lift just slips beneath the rising tide. I’m clawing from the deep, but the surface never breaks. I need to reach you… I need to speak — but the fear is what I take. I’m drowning without a sound — held under by the weight I hide. I want to call your name… but the words stay locked inside. I’m reaching out in silence hoping someone feels me near… but all you hear is quiet — and what I can’t make you hear. I try to climb the rising dark, but the water takes my grip. Every thought becomes a stone pulling me deeper— deeper into silence, I slip. You tell me you’ll be there — and I want so much to try. But my voice is like a broken thing, just trembling behind my eyes. If I could give you every truth that echoes in my bones… you’d know I’m screaming just for you, but all of it stays closed. I’m drowning without a sound — sinking into darkness, I disappear. I want to call your name… but the words are caged by fear. I’m reaching out in silence wishing you could pull me clear… but all you hear is quiet — and what I can’t make you hear. If I could speak… I’d tell you why. If I could breathe… I’d tell you how. If I could let you in… you’d know I’m not okay — I’m just too far down. The water fills my lungs, but still I try to shout — It’s not that I don’t trust you… I just can’t get it out. I’m drowning without a sound — lost in waves no one can see. I want to call your name… but the silence owns me. I’m reaching out in shadows, hoping someone holds me near… but all you hear is quiet — and all I can give is what I can’t make you hear. If my silence ever drowns me… just know I wanted you to hear. I wanted you to find me. But I vanished before I could speak what I can’t make you hear.
Notes
This piece begins in the same emotional space as What I Can’t Make You Hear — slower, softer, resigned to the weight of what can’t be said. Familiar notes return, but they arrive quieter, already carrying loss. As it unfolds, the calm fractures. The rhythm tightens, the strumming grows frantic, and disjointed sounds surface — not as triumph, but as refusal. A brief return to stillness follows, before the tempo shifts again. Not victory. Not relief. Just movement. This is the moment where nothing is resolved — but the choice to continue is made anyway.
Beneath the skin, something stirs… A memory folding into form. The self I lost, the self I feared… returning through the dark, reborn. Convergence… becoming… There’s a tremor underneath my ribs, a quiet pull I can’t dismiss. The parts I buried, left unseen, rise through the cracks inside of me. The shadow moves, but not as foe— it carries everything I know. Beneath the fear, beneath the shame, the self I silenced speaks my name. In the Convergence, my fragments realign, reflections of the selves I lost converge inside. I walk the dark I used to deny— The shadow opens… and so do I. The masks I wore, the lies I kept, the wounds that held me while I slept— they gather now, a trembling weight, the parts of me I tried to break. But evolution needs the fall, the fractured edge, the shattered wall. This shifting form I tried to fight was only asking me to face the night. In the Convergence, the hidden realigns, the echoes and the archetypes collapse behind my eyes. I shed the skin that kept me small— I am becoming… after all. Not fracture… not fault. Not demon… not design. A shape of everything I lost— returning to the spine. Draw the shadow… name the fear… merge the silence… reappear… I meet the shadow in its orbit— and step into the Other Side. In the Convergence, I collapse and rise, the selves I hid now standing unified. The dark I feared becomes the key— I move toward what I’m meant to be. Convergence… Becoming…
I was taught — “Real men don’t cry.” “Suck it up.” “Keep your feelings inside.” But no one told me what it’d cost… To build your heart… and keep it lost. My chest gets tight, my throat won’t move, The words get stuck — I’ve got no proof. Of how I feel or what I mean, Just ghosts that whisper inside of me. I was raised to swallow pain, To bite my tongue and hide the strain. They called it strength, they called it pride, But it’s those walls I’m trapped behind. Every time I try to speak, My pulse kicks hard, my knees go weak. I taste the words, but they don’t come — I choke them back — my throat goes numb. It locks me down when I try to speak, The truth’s an anchor, it drags too deep. But I see their eyes, and I feel the cost, Of everything I thought I’d lost. I’ve built my walls, I’ve walked alone, But I won’t leave my sons on stone. They ask the things I learned to fear, They say the words I’d choke to hear. No shame in pain, no need to flee — They are the men I could not be. They talk of love, they talk of pain, They speak the words I can’t explain. And in their voices, I finally hear — The sound I buried all these years. They laugh out loud, they cry with ease, They’ve broken chains that strangled me. I see their fire, I see their grace, And for the first time — I find my place. It locks me down when I try to speak, The truth’s an anchor, it drags too deep. But I see their hearts, I see them grow, And they’re stronger than I’ll ever know. I’ve built my heart, I’ve built my home, And they’ll never stand on stone. My pulse betrays what I conceal, A trembling voice I can’t reveal. But through their eyes, the fear unwinds, They speak the words I keep confined. I may never break completely free, But I’ve made damn sure that — my sons can be! It locks me down when I try to speak, The truth’s an anchor, it drags too deep. They hold the light, they hold the key, To all the parts I hid in me. I’ve faced the dark, I’ve walked alone, But I won’t raise my sons on stone. They’ve taught me love, they’ve set me free — The chain is broken — this curse ends with me.
Mom, you tremble when I smile I know it’s hard to look sometimes You see the hurt that never healed And try to hide it deep inside You reach for love, then pull away Like tides that fear the shore You gave me life but lost yourself And I can’t ask for more Mom, I see you — the girl they hurt The woman still haunted each night I’m your reflection, I’ll carry your light And love you through your losing fight Your laughter lived in another time Before the bottle blurred your rhyme You taught me strength by falling slow And showed me what I shouldn’t know But even through the cracks and scars I see the heart that tried The one who chose to keep me here When you could’ve said goodbye If pain’s the blood that binds us tight Let love be breath that makes it right I’ll hold your story in my hands So you can finally understand Mom, I know you cope in your own way But the ghosts come back each day I know you’re fighting just to breathe So I just need to say Mom, I see you — I know you’re tired But I’ll keep your spark from the fire I’m your hope, I’ll learn to forgive And show you we still have life to live And maybe one day you’ll find some peace When all your ghosts can finally sleep But if they don’t, that’s alright too I’ll keep seeing the best in you Mom, I see you still And I always will Mom, I love you
